Socorro Independent School District Holds Annual Meeting for Career and Technology at Western Technical College (WTC)

SISD MeetingOn Tuesday, July 18th, Socorro Independent School District held its annual staff development meeting at WTC conference facilities located at 9426 Plaza Circle Dr. Over 125 instructors from the SISD Career and Technical Education division attended. SISD faculty toured the WTC facilities and were provided a full catered lunch by Mulligans Cafe.

City of El Paso Receives Customized HVAC Training from Western Technical College (WTC)

El Paso City WorkersThe City of El Paso understands the need to stay current in all areas of operations. In July, the employees of the Department of Solid Waste attended a 9 hour workshop coordinated by Richard Adams of the City and Eddie Rosales, Instructor with WTC HVAC/Refrigeration Department.

Now Available! Red, White and Blue Scholarship

Since, February 1, 2002, WTC has been recognizing the dedication, hard work, and sacrifice’s made by our Military men and women in uniform. WTC is awarding a $1000.00 scholarship towards tuition to every active duty, reserve or National Guard from every branch of service and their dependents that enrolls at WTC. The scholarship can only be used at Western Technical College in both degree and certificate programs and is non transferable.

Admissions Department Undergoes Training in Refrigeration to Update Knowledge

The WTC Admissions Department underwent training in the Refrigeration Department on July 21, 2006 to learn more about HVAC in an effort to help new and incoming prospective students to better understand the HVAC field.  The training covered electrical codes and wiring, water purification systems, ice machines and a video presentation from the Hussman Corporation.

The Hussman video explained the responsibilities of an Installation and Service Technician. Today, the whole industry is driven by computer and electronics. The basic concepts of the HVAC taught are the compressor, evaporator, condenser and metering devices. The WTC Admissions Department would like to thank David Alvarez, HVAC Program Director for the presentation.

Employer Visits Are an Important Aspect in Career Development Skills for Students

The mock interview process that all WTC grads face prepares them for seeking employment in their chosen field.  Helen Garcia, Senior Career Services Representative with WTC says, “The real life setting and evaluation that local employers provide WTC grads, allows these students to strengthen communication skills and to better understand employer expectations.”

TV ShowWestern Technical College will host a new educational segment on Remix TV’s Speed Axis Program; airing Sundays at 5:00 p.m. Tune into Channel 48 or Cable Channel 11 and learn about the Automotive Industry’s Performance Tuners and tips you can use on Remix TV’s Speed Axis!

Admissions Community Calendar

August 1, 2006 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. – Ft. Bliss Education Fair Centennial Club. WTC Outside Admissions TEAM will set up a display and table to provide educational information about WTC training programs for active duty soldiers and their families.  All interested departments from WTC who wish to be in the Educational Fair should contact Jerry. POC Tristen 568-2784 at Ft Bliss or Jerry Martin at WTC 760-8123.

August 3, 2006 8 a.m.- 4 p.m. POC Charles Berry and Rosalio Acosta with Ysleta Independent School District CATE (Career and Technology Education) will hold their annual workshop at WTC. Approx 125 teachers will be attending at our new Plaza Campus.  Jerry Martin, Director will give a presentation about opportunities at WTC and the Perryman report which was prepared by Career Colleges and Schools of Texas.

September through December 2006- WTC Offers Dynamic and Exciting classroom presentations for all high school seniors. Interested teachers or counselors should contact Jerry Martin at (915) 760-8123 for reservations. Several lesson plans are available to choose from, including “Life After High School, Employment Prep 101, and Budgeting Money”. The presenter uses high tech LCD’s and laptop presentations with DVD video to excite and provide virtual tours of the hottest training programs today. Financial aid and job placement opportunities are presented for 2007 Seniors who are preparing to graduate and enter post secondary colleges.
