Socorro Independent School Holds Annual Meeting for Career and Technology at Western Technical College (WTC)

On Tuesday, July 18th, Socorro Independent School District held its annual staff development meeting at WTC conference facilities located at 9426 Plaza Circle Dr. Over 125 instructors from the SISD Career and Technical Education division attended. SISD faculty toured the WTC facilities and were provided a full catered lunch by Mulligans Cafe. The WTC Plaza campus is very nice! I only heard positive comments from the SISD faculty about WTC’s hospitality. SISD is grateful for WTC hosting our staff development meeting,”said Allen Long, Director of Career and Technology Education with SISD. Jerry Martin, Admissions Director said, “WTC is pleased to offer the community the opportunity to use the WTC conference facilities.”

“Not only does SISD have a strong working  relationship with WTC in that we exchange opportunities to increase education amongst our students in El Paso, but WTC is a really great option for our graduating students,” continued Long. Donna Smith, Public Relations representative for WTC attended the conference and said, “SISD is very active in informing students about all opportunities for a good future. WTC took the opportunity to award several SISD staff for engaging students in the many WTC scholarship opportunities. SISD is sincere and dedicated to leading their students to seek out success.”

SISD introduced 16 new teachers that will instruct in several of the different areas that SISD offers, aimed at preparing middle and high school students for employment after graduation. The Career Connections Program is a mandatory program for all 8th graders that helps them explore careers, tour high schools, and even create a five year graduation plan. SISD teachers and counselors help students make good decisions for the future!
