Microcomputer Technology
All upcoming Electronic grads recently participated in a training and certification in fiber optic cabling applications. WTC welcomed special guest speaker, Manny Carreon, of Tri State Electric. 3M Telecom was the Major sponsor of this event by providing hardware and other specialized training throughout the year. WTC maintains the only college title in the southwest as a 3m Authorized Training Provider.

The Electronics Department also held a Customized Business Training for Satec International of Holloman Air force Base at the Diana Campus on May 20. “ Satec is  one of the many diverse customized training clients of WTC ,”said Rick Villarreal, Electronics Instructor.

MEDICAL ASSISTING
The Medical Assisting (MA) Program is extremely active in the community by providing blood glucose and blood pressure screenings. In 2005, 4,095 individuals were screened. This participation not only provides students with an opportunity to gain hands on training, but has made a major impact on the 13.6% of individuals that had abnormally high or low results and were helped to obtain further testing and treatment for Diabetes. The service offered by the Faculty and Students of the MA Program provides a lifestyle benefit to individuals who may have never had a screening had they not been offered the opportunity by the Faculty and Students of the MA Program.

Schools, wellness coordinators for businesses, and Get Fit El Paso! , an EP Fitness community outreach program, all rely on the solid partnership that the WTC MA Program offers the community. In 2006, students have already spent over 100 Hours of dedication to health fairs and community events. Visit www.wtc-ep.edu for a scheduled screening near you!
