On Thursday, October 19, WTC accepted a great honor by receiving the Best Little Website on the Border Award by the El Paso Hispanic Chamber of Commerce at the Biz Tech Executive Luncheon. One word explains the development behind the WTC website…Lumenbrite! Roman J Villarreal of Lumenbrite Training says, “We wanted to build a website for Western Technical College that would be interactive and cutting-edge, but very informative and easy to use. When the blogs portion was built, the intent was to create a means of communication with departments and students. The blogs would also serve as a means to add fresh content leveraging the experience and talent of the instructional staff.”

Clint ISD Teams With WTC-Special by Laura Cade & Gilbert Marquez of Clint ISD
In Clint Independent School District, like so many other districts, meeting the demands of hiring highly trained technicians to maintain the school buses has always been a challenge. Today's school bus technicians not only have to understand the special requirements of operating a bus fleet but must also be able to keep up with constant technological innovations from manufacturers (computerized drive trains, emission controls, etc.).

Massage Therapy Career Allows for Independence & Satisfaction in Helping Others
The first graduating class of WTC’s new massage therapy program recently sat down for an interview to talk about their decision to become massage therapists. A common factor is apparent amongst the group of individuals. They all agree that within this particular field of study, they can do two things: work towards being in business for themselves and be in the position to help others, a nice combination for these ambitious April of 2007 grads!

WTC Celebrates National Health Information Technology (HIT) Week
During the week of November 5-11, WTC celebrated National Health Information & Technology Week. This week highlights the critical role that Health Information Manager and Technician professionals play in healthcare today. No matter what area you work in, if you’re involved in health information management (HIM) or health information technology (HIT), your work is vital to delivering quality healthcare. Without the information and privacy and security safeguards you provide, the field of healthcare could not advance.
In gearing up for the celebrations, WTC staff and students coordinated fundraising activities at both campuses. Gina Januarius, HIT Lab Assistant helped out with fundraising through raffles and bake sales and says, “The HIT Department raised over $700.00 to contribute to student activities throughout the week. I encourage those who want to learn more about this week in general to visit www.ahima.org .” For more information about the Health Information Technology Program at WTC call (915)566-9621.
