Massage Therapy Career Allows for Independence & Satisfaction in Helping Others
The first graduating class of WTC’s new massage therapy program recently sat down for an interview to talk about their decision to become massage therapists. A common factor is apparent amongst the group of individuals. They all agree that within this particular field of study, they can do two things: work towards being in business for themselves and be in the position to help others, a nice combination for these ambitious April of 2007 grads!
“I have plans to open my own business aimed at working directly with children that have disabilities through therapy,” says Maria Felix, a physical therapy assistant who is continuing her education at WTC. “The training I am receiving and the State Certification I will gain will just enhance my experience,” says Felix. With the sure fire ability to actually open their own business in this thriving profession, most of these students are already keen to the fact that their current friends and family or business associates are potential future clients.
“I am excited to start the hands on training portion of the Program,” says Fernando Najera, who wants to work with pregnant mothers and children. With the incorporation of the hands on portion of the curriculum, he will be able to do just that and more. Students will be working on elderly and infants. This training combined with the study of anatomy and physiology, will provide students with an all round knowledge of the physical body. They will begin putting this knowledge to practice when their externship starts in February by actually completing full body massages. “WTC invites the Public to enjoy a massage as the students must log a certain number of hours before graduating,” says Melanie Young, Program Director for the program at WTC.
