Raytheon Awards Graduate $1000 Savings Bond
At the recent October 2006 WTC graduation ceremony, one graduate receiving his Associate of Occupational Studies Degree in Microcomputer Technology with a specialty in Electronics, stood out amongst the class.
Graduate, Ramon Costales, accepted an honored award from a company with local presence that believes in the future of Electronics, Raytheon.
Helen Garcia, Senior Career Services Representative says, “This is an honor for Ramón to receive this award as the selection is based on attendance, cumulative grade point average and commitment to master their subject. The $1,000 savings bond award is given once a year to an Electronics graduate by Raytheon. I think the El Paso community needs to know that Raytheon supports education, namely in much needed technical areas.”
Ray V. Gonzales, Senior Manager for Raytheon Technical Services Company LLC (RTSC) says, “The number of engineering degrees awarded in the United States is down 20 percent from the peak year of 1985. By 2008, 6 million jobs will be unfilled in the U.S. because people won’t have the necessary science and technology background. Technically qualified candidates are important for the country’s future, as well as for meeting Raytheon’s staffing and technology needs.”
Garcia adds,” Raytheon has been involved with WTC for about four years. In addition to this award opportunity that our Electronic students have, Raytheon has been instrumental is assisting WTC in developing the electronics and communications curriculum, as well as donating training equipment, being part of our advisory board, and participating in job fairs.” It is these types of events that both inspire students and validate the importance of excelling through education and in all that they do.
