SKILLSUSA Competition concludes at WTC
Western Technical College and the admissions department hosted the 2008 SKILLSUSA competitions for the Diesel and Automotive tracks at the Plaza campus and the Computer and Electroincs tracks at the Diana campus. Western Technical college is always proud to host these events and support the local high schools in preparing young men and women for these types of careers. School districts from all over El Paso participated with almost 100 local high school students competing for advancement to regionals and state level as well as for scholarships. WTC awards 5 scholarships in all programs with over $103,000 awarded to high school seniors who placed in the top 5 of each competition.

Hot Rod Expo News.....
Sunday, January 27, 2008 the admissions recruiting TEAM participated in the "World of Wheels Hot Rod Expo" at the El Paso Convention Center. Jaime Anchondo, admissions recruiter states "this show was one of the best we have participated in for a long time", "well organized, lots of participants and I talked to several interested people who want to check out WTC". Rudy Murillo, admissions rep was the TV star for the evening. Channel 4 came around to get video and comments from the public and vendors about the show. Our next huge event coming up is the El Paso Honda Expo in February, which will highlight the sport car industry. We look forward to seeing everyone there!
PS: A huge "Thank you!" goes out to the Medical / Clinical Assistant department, they came and participated in the expo and many positive comments where heard about their involvement and service to the community! Thank you!

Mustang
Kyle Mobley stopped in front of the school on his way out to say "thank you" and give us the run specs from the Dyno. This is an 89' Mustang, with a 521 big block Ford engine, a C6 transmission with 373 gears. 10.63 all motor @ 6200 ft. This beast put on 585 hp with a 50 shot of nitrous. WTC Race Car
The Performance Tuner class is still working to fine tune this monster of a car, over 700 hp is the standard for this beast. Want to check it out, come by Western Technical College or call 760-8123 for a tour. it should be ready for the tour scheduled to visit local high school auto shops in April and May 2007.

Todays discussion is about the Computer or IT careers, we take a look at computer support specialists and system administrators. Usually computer support specialist will provide technical assistance, support, and advice to customers and other users. This occupation group includes technical support specialist and help-desk technicians. These troubleshooters interpret problems and provide technical support for hardware, software, and systems. They answer telephone calls, analyze problems using automated diagnostic programs, and resolve recurrent difficulties.
