The PTA Class of 2009 will host a Karaoke Contest on St. Patricks Day, March 17th from 1pm to 3pm. All WTC faculty and students are invited to come and come and compete. Entry fees are as follows: single $2.00, duet $3.50 and 3+ $5 per song. The first 42 contestants will receive a t-shirt or a baseball cap or a beanie!!! Prizes include: 1st place - Single person raft, 2nd place - Patio Umbrella, 3rd place - $20 gas card. There will be other prizes as well. Join us in the large conference room at the Diana Campus. The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) annually challenges facilities as well as educational institutions to obtain a 100% enrollment into the APTA. The APTA is a national professional organization who's goal is to foster advancements in physical therapy practice, research, and education. WTC was officially recognized in PT Magazine which is the official monthly publication of the APTA for obtaining 100% membership among students and staff. Congratulations!

The WTC PTA Class of 2009 donated $100 worth of toys to the Child Crisis Center. Several students made the delivery on December 19th, in time for the holidays. Way to go guys!!

The PTA Class of 2009 will host a thanksgiving lunch fundraiser. The proceeds will be utilized for assisting with student travel expenses to the National Physical Therapy Student Conclave or the American Physical Therapy Association Convention in 2008. A portion of the proceeds will assist in providing meals to the needy in December. The Thanksgiving Lunch will take place on Friday, November 16th, 2007 at 12:00 noon. Tickets will be available to students/staff and will be sold in advance by contacting a PTA student or you may call Valerie Soto-Miles at 740-4132. Tickets are on sale now. Advance tickets are $5.00 or you may puchase a plate the day of for $6.00. Plates will include the following: Turkey, mashed potatoes with gravy, corn or greenbeans, cranberry sauce, stuffing and a dinner roll. Onsite meals will include a slice of pumpkin pie and lemonade or tea. Tickets will be available for the Plaza campus and the plates will be delivered. Limited tickets will be sold so get yours today!

The Western Technical College Physical Therapist Assistant Class of 2009, in conjunction with the UTEP Physical Therapy Class of 2009, will sponsor a jacket and blanket drive in preparation for winter for the less fortunate in our community. They will be accepting donations through Thursday, Nov. 15, 2007. You may drop off your donations at the PTA Lab (Room 604) at 9451 Diana Drive, El Paso, TX, 79924. If someone is not there to assist you, you may leave them with the front staff. If you're near the UTEP campus (College of Health Sciences building), you may leave your donations there as well. PTA students had an opportunity to speak with REHAB CARE representative Lauren M. Brody as well as Mike McCague, a local clinician. Topics included PTA opportunities, salaries, various work environments and student opportunities through Rehab Care. Thanks for the awesome lunch Lauren and for your time Mike! On August 30, Western Technical College’s PTA students were represented by Jessica Gomez, Nicole Martinez and Mario Castorena on the radio talk show “El Paso On The Move”. Topics included the Career Schools and their benefit to the community, the new WTC PTA program and open discussion with the students. Also on air were WTC’s PTA Program Director Richard Flores and Financial Services Director Jennifer Phillips. “El Paso On The Move” is on the air from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., Mon. – Fri. on KHRO 1650 AM. The Greater El Paso District of the Texas Physical Therapy Association held its 15th annual 5k walk/run and wheelchair race at Ascarate Park, Saturday, October 6th, at 8:00 a.m. WTC was there represented by PTA students and staff volunteering and participating in the events. WTC was a presenting double sponsor and also provided door prizes. The proceeds from this event went to the El Paso Spinal Cord Injury Support Group and for local physical therapist and physical therapist assistant student scholarships. A great big thanks to all of those who participated!
