InfoSec Consultant Issues Prediction on Technology Abuse
Today on Internet Evolution, computer security expert Kevin Mitnick
issues a harrowing prediction that, based on the government's current
abuse of warrantless surveillance, we can expect warrantless invasions of
private property to be conducted by government robots within the next
twenty years.
In his ThinkerNet blog, "Warrantless Surveillance - the Worst Is Yet to
Come," Mitnick says the current administration is defending its
position to wiretap any U.S. citizen without court authority and without any oversight by claiming that the wireless surveillance is being monitored
by computers running artificial intelligence software, not by human
beings. This current abuse of technology, claims Mitnick, will only get
worse.
As technology advances, so does the potential for that technology to be
abused by authority, says Mitnick. "Within two decades, a President or
his/her designees will legitimize the warrantless search of private
property, using a robot instead of human beings to conduct the search."

Here's the WTC Blog link incase you missed it.
Okay, enough of the rant, here's some high-tech literature from the good folks at LightReading.com.

Western Tech visits with UTEP Football's Head Coach, Mike Price, and get's the 411 on his implementation of non-traditional communication technology hardware on the football field. Coach Price's efforts have received quite a bit of curious attention from NCAA and NFL football programs on the quarterback helmet cams he has integrated into his
training regiment.
Franklin High School's Benjamin Snow, a Western Technical College graduate, picked up his degree in Microcomputer Technology. Ben is also on-board in this week's update letting us know what he's been up to since getting hired by White Sands Missile Range contractor, UNITECH.
Intel Corp. visits the Microcomputer Technology Dept.
Intel Corporation came to El Paso's Western Technical College to provide some info to new WTC Microcomputer students on employment opportunities. Intel and Western Tech have maintained a strong graduate-employment relationship for over 10 years!
Ever wonder what makes a superball's bounce so super?
Why do so many of us stare in awe at the brilliant and dazzling Class 2 laser?
What makes us slowly nod in approval at Carmen Electra's smile?
Some questions, until recently, were thought to go eternally unanswered.
The Microcomputer Technology Department's lab facilities at Western Technical College's - Diana Campus -
in El Paso, Texas has dedicated countless man-hours to create that certain Je n'sais qoi that gives that unexplanable magic to the seemingly mundane. Not that I would ever consider Carmen mundane.
The Microcomputer Tech lab technicians have found a way to embed this inexplicable technology into new Western Technical College headgear!
The video you are about to watch contains mostly facts.
...and the hats will run you ten bones a pop.
See your Microcomputer Technology Department rep for more details.
CompTIA's rigorous computer hardware program at Western Technical College teaches many students how to locate and troubleshoot smoked hardware. This is just one example of what you could run into out in the field!
Rewind:
Kazaa was born. The masses cheered. Free Music via Peer-to-Peer networking was celebrated by all except the RIAA or MPAA. Litigation soon followed.
Free phone service was born, it was called Skype.
After Ebay purchased Skype for a cool 2.6 Bee-lee-on, the founders who gave the world Kazaa and Skype, Niklas Zennström and Janus Friis, have started yet another company...this one was code-named the Venice Project.
Jan 17, 2007 the project's name was laid to rest and the offical corporate name was unveiled. Joost.
Play:
Joost is born. It's free TV on demand.
Zennström and Friis are at it again! They have the hardware and code to make this happen. Mozilla's open source helped lead the way. Via a seemingly friendly 10MB download, the GUI offers windows friendly rew/play/fwd features and content search. 400 Kbps stream w/ a 100 Kpbs overhead for P2P file sharing makes Joost sound almost too easy to view and operate. Oh, yeah, in case you are intrested, Joost.com needs beta testers.
Silicon Valley's fabled saying "Don't bet against the Internet" may be changing to: "Don't bet against the Vikings!"
Ah, yes.
Dedication to getting where you gotta be to do what you love to do.
That's what this vid is about.
To all the students and faculty at Western Technical College who have braved the snowy and icy trek many-a-day this year to be at Western Tech...this clip is for you!
Oh yeah, be on the look-out for a cameo instructor training session too!
